ABOUT US
Carol
Hustad, owner of A-1 Siding, has been in the business for over 30 years. She
started working with her late husband, Jerry Crane, who owned Crane Siding, as
an office manager. Through the years, Jerry taught her the ropes of the siding
business from running the office, to estimating and selling the products, to
supervising the crews. Jerry sold the business in 1981 and when that did not
work out, Carol was instrumental in purchasing the business back in 1984 under
the A-1 Siding name. Carol continued to operate the business on a part time
basis after Jerry´s passing in 1994. In 1997, after marrying her current
husband, Bob Hustad, together they put forth all of their energies into the
business full time. Carol is a member of many organizations including the Home
Builders Association, American Business Women Association, National Association
of Women in Construction, and Women Entrepreneurs; many of which she has held an
office of Secretary, Treasurer, Vice President or President. She is also a
member of the Kirkwood Carpentry Board, the Rezoning Board for the city of Cedar
Rapids, and the Women in Transitional Jobs Board at Kirkwood Community College.
Carol brings a vast amount of experience and knowledge to the table and is more
than willing to educate her customers without any pressure sales tactics.
Bob
Hustad, Estimator / Sales Representative for A-1 Siding, has
been in the business for 8 years. After being laid off from
Compuware Corporation, he joined forces with wife, Carol, as a full
time estimator and sales rep. With Bob´s knowledge as a technical
writer, he implemented templates into our Word and Excel programs to
create proposal worksheets and contracts and an estimating worksheet
so that when they are out on a estimating job, he can provide the
customer a copy of a proposal within minutes of measuring a job and
finding out what the customer wants for product. All information he
needs is saved into his laptop that he takes from job to job and is
right at his fingertips. Bob also has engineering experience and
with this he can draw up plans for decks, sunrooms, additions, etc.
We have found that Bob is an extreme asset to the company as he can
picture and make things work that most other companies could never
even imagine doing! If a customer wants something done a certain
way, whether it is siding, windows, doors, sunrooms, etc., most of
the time, Bob can find a way to get it done. This is where our
slogan "No Job too Small" and the statement that we like doing the
little and unique things with keeping the original character of a
home comes into play. With Carol"s help, Bob has also become very
knowledgeable about all of the products that are available and is
also more than willing to educate customers without any pressure
sales tactics.
Deb
Wolfe, Office Manager for A-1 Siding, has been with the company
for 3 years. Deb started with A-1 Siding after Carol realized that
the business had grown enough that she didn´t have the time on her
hands to run the office efficiently when she was required to be out
in the sales field and overseeing the 7-9 crews out on the job
sites. Deb brought her knowledge of the Quick Books program into the
business to keep track of all the different facets of business
accounting, from sales, to accounts receivables and payables, to
payroll. Deb has implemented a yearly filing system that puts past
customers, potential customers, and vendor files at our fingertips
within minutes of requesting the file. When calling into the office,
Deb is the voice on the other end and does all the scheduling of
estimates for Carol and Bob. Deb also has past experience in setting
up sales booths for home shows and works at helping Carol & Bob set
up the booths and keeps Carol organized with all the literature and
sales tools she and Bob need during the shows. Although she is still
learning the business and the product line, she manages to oversee
daily operations and keep the business up and running and the crews
on their toes while Carol and Bob take their one and only week of
vacation in January of each year. We sell,
install, finish and DO IT ALL!
